Youth Programs
Fostering growth for people and the planet.
Our youth programs include a working Urban Farm, our Youth Crew Internship and our Seed to Table Program. All of these initiatives strengthen our local food system by empowering youth with the knowledge and tools to grow into responsible community members and leaders.
The Urban Farm
The Urban Farm is a half-acre teaching farm located at Northside Harvest Park. At the farm, we offer field trips, community workshops, and volunteer opportunities. All of the produce grown and harvested from the Urban Farm is either sold at the Hub City Farmers Market or donated to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
Youth Crew Internship
Our Youth Crew interns work at the Urban Farm during the summer season, learning sustainable farming techniques for growing food. As part of the internship, the Youth Crew interns participate in weekly community and workforce development workshops. These workshops include Financial literacy, Health & Wellness, Diversity & Equity, College & Career Readiness and Sustainable Agriculture. This program develops leadership skills, fosters team building, and advances job training for these young adults. Our interns serve as advocates in the community and go on to foster growth in their communities.
Seed to Table
Seed-to-Table seeks to bridge the gap in understanding where our food comes from before it reaches the grocery store shelves. Through experiential and problem-based learning, children are introduced to gardening, healthy eating, local foods, nutrition, and other STEM concepts right in their classrooms and school gardens. The curriculum is designed with Farm to School, MyPlate, and State Plan guidelines in mind and aims to not only challenge students but enlighten them to make healthy choices. Hub City Roots is currently working with the Cleveland Academy of Leadership, The Franklin School, and Mary H. Wright Elementary School each week facilitating these workshops.
If you want a child’s mind to grow, you must first plant a seed.

Field Trips are available every Wednesday, April to November for groups. Visits are approximately one hour long and can be scheduled from 9:30am to 10:30am or 11:00am to 12:00pm. Groups will get a tour of the farm and greenhouse and participate in a gardening or nutrition-based workshop.
