***WHAT TO EXPECT***

Tour of Urban Farm: Interactive walking tour, introduction to Hub City Roots Urban Farm, our overall work, and the purpose of the farm.

  • Greenhouse Grow boxes: Greenhouse grow boxes will increase capacity year-round for Hub City Roots Urban Farm. Raised boxes will be located in our greenhouse allowing us to grow crops year-round that would normally be affected by frost. Volunteers will assemble grow boxes, fill boxes with compost, and plant crops.

  • Top off the beds: After years of production, the soil of the raised beds has compacted and lost its nutrients. By replacing the top layer of soil the Urban Farm raised beds will be ready to feed the community for years to come. Volunteers will fill boxes with soil and plant crops for the fall/winter season.

  • Compost storage: The Urban Farm uses all of its plant waste to create rich compost to add to its raised beds throughout the year. By creating a 3 compartment compost system the production will be easier to manage, and produce compost faster. Volunteers will assemble the compost bin and move existing compost into its proper bin.
